Stiluri muzicale abordate:

Lacrimosa este un duo compus din germanul Tilo Wolff, principalul compozitor, si finlandeza Anne Nurmi. Initial, muzica formatiei Lacrimosa aborda stilul Darkwave sau chiar gothic, indreptandu-se in timp spre stilul gothic metal. Muzica trupei combina un sunet de heavy metal si de rock gothic impreuna cu elemente de vioara, trompeta si alte instrumente clasice; in evolutia sa, grupul a trecut prin multe schimbari de instrumentatie. Versurile, majoritatea scrise in limba germana, rar in limba engleza, exprima stari de solitudine, tristete, disperare, dragoste.\
Evolutia muzicala a formatiei LACRIMOSA poate fi impartita pe etape: la inceput un stil minimal, lent, bazat foarte mult pe keyboards (stil specific albumului Angst), sunetul de chitara si alte influente din muzica metal castiga tot mai mult teren in stilul formatiei, culminand pe albumul STILLE. De aici, accentul s-a schimbat de pe sunetul chitarelor si influenta metal catre compozitiile clasice si simfonice, foarte usor de remarcat pe albumul FASSADE. In fine, albumul ECHOS se indeparteaza de stilul simfonic si heavy , reusind sa creeze un amestec de elemente muzicale, mixtura destul de greu de clasificat. Ritmul schimbarilor in muzica LACRIMOSA este unul suficient de lent cat sa poata fi remarcata legatura dintre albume, dar totusi destul de rapid, lasand impresia ascultatorilor ca albumele ANGST, STILLE si LICHTGESTALT ar fi realizate de trupe diferite.
